I’m proud to say that Cape Air, the company I founded 20 years ago with one airplane and one route, now provides 850 jobs, most of them here on the Cape and Islands, most of them year-round. I know what it takes to create sustainable jobs, and I will bring that expertise to the State House. In addition, serving as chairman of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, co-chair of the Cape Cod Business Roundtable, and on the board of the Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank has taught me that while tourism remains our driving engine, economic diversity is crucial. Providing health care is vital for our communities, and offers excellent job opportunities as well. The same is true for education. And the Cape and Islands must sustain a strong fishing community, both offshore and on our flats. State government can play multiple roles to build jobs and accomplish these goals. Government needs to be part of these solutions, a catalyst and change agent.
