My three daughters have benefited from excellent educations at Cape Cod public schools. Serving on the boards of the Laurel School, Cape Cod Academy, and Sturgis Charter educated me about the constant challenges facing schools public and private, large and small. On Beacon Hill, the key question remains the Chapter 70 funding formula, which continues to discriminate against Cape and Islands taxpayers by counting too heavily on property values to determine state support. Income, not land values, should have greater weight. In addition, as student enrollment declines, regional school systems must be strengthened. My direct involvement in my children’s education makes me a better advocate for your children.
